Online Safety

Online safety is a shared responsibility between parents, carers, schools and children. At Edison Primary, we help families understand how to keep primary-aged pupils safe when using the internet, apps and games. This includes setting clear expectations at home, supporting children to use devices appropriately, and encouraging them to speak to a trusted adult if something feels worrying or confusing.

For younger children, the most effective approach is to combine age-appropriate technology with practical guidance. Use parental controls where available, keep devices in shared areas, and review privacy settings together. Remind children not to share personal information such as full names, addresses, school details, passwords or photos without permission. Encourage them to think before they click, and to remember that not everything online is true or suitable.

It is also important to talk about behaviour online. Encourage respectful communication, explain that messages and images can be copied and shared, and help children understand the difference between harmless content and bullying or inappropriate material. If your child encounters upsetting content, they should stop, tell you right away, and avoid responding. If you would like advice or support, please contact the school so we can help you with guidance and next steps.
