Edison Primary School

Modern Foreign Language: Spanish

Intent for MFL

At Edison Primary School, the Spanish curriculum inspires enjoyment of language learning, building confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing while developing curiosity about Spanish-speaking cultures and the wider world. Spanish is taught through the Language Angels Scheme with clear progression.

Implementation

Through the school, the learning of Spanish is enriched through cross-curricular links, cultural studies, Spanish Day and regular use of the language in school. Pupils develop a secure foundation in Spanish, show positive attitudes to language learning, and gain confidence, cultural awareness and readiness for future language study in secondary school.

KS2 Implementation

In KS2, pupils build on their prior knowledge through a progressive Spanish curriculum using the Language Angels scheme, developing their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Lessons are carefully sequenced to introduce and revisit vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures, enabling pupils to communicate with increasing confidence and accuracy. Teachers use a range of interactive activities, including conversations, role play, games, songs and written tasks, to embed language skills and encourage active participation.
