Edison Primary School

Year 6 become Haematologists at Edison

Year 6 had a fascinating week exploring how blood works by creating their own “blood in a bottle.” Using simple materials, they followed step by step instructions to model the different parts of blood and see how each component plays an important role.

Pupils learnt about red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body, and white blood cells, which help us fight infections and plasma which carries nutrients for growth and repair.  The activity helped them visualise what can’t be seen with the naked eye and deepened their understanding of how the circulatory and immune systems keep us healthy.

It was a hands-on, memorable way to bring science to life.
