Y5 visit Lampton Secondary School

Our Year 5 pupils had a brilliant visit to Lampton Secondary School during science week, enjoying a morning packed with hands-on science. After a cheerful walk over, the children were welcomed into the labs to explore real secondary school experiments.

They began by using Bunsen burners to see how different chemicals burn with different colours. When chemicals are heated, their particles release energy as coloured light, a simple way to spot each chemical’s unique “fingerprint”.

The class also watched the floating tea bag experiment. Once the empty tea bag was lit, the hot air inside rose, lifting the light ash into the air like a tiny rocket.

Finally, the children observed the famous elephant toothpaste reaction. This happens when hydrogen peroxide breaks down very quickly, releasing lots of oxygen gas and creating a huge, foamy eruption.

The children represented Edison beautifully. Staff were so impressed that we’ve already been invited back next year, and every child received a certificate to celebrate their hard work.
